Turn on two-step sign-in

Protect your account with a second step after your password: Face ID or fingerprint, an authenticator app, or an email code.

Before you start

Your phone. For the app option: Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator installed.

Step 1 of 6

Tap Settings in the menu, then tap Security in the "Jump to a section" row (or scroll down to the Two-step sign-in box).
In Two-step sign-in, pick Face ID and fingerprint (passkeys), Authenticator app or Email codes and tap Set up (or Add Face ID or fingerprint).
Type Your password and tap Confirm.
Open your authenticator app, tap + and scan the square code. Can't scan? Tap Can't scan? Enter the key instead.
Type the 6-digit code your app shows and tap Turn on.
Tap Copy or Download, keep them safe, then tap I've saved my recovery codes.

Not this: k7qm-2xr9-vk4p — that's a recovery code — use one only if you lose your phone. Each works once.

What it looks like Setup key (if you can't scan)

Find it: Two-step sign-in → Can't scan? Enter the key insteadPaste it: Your authenticator app → add account → enter a setup key

The row says On. Next sign-in, after your password you're asked for the code and see Verify and sign in.
