Get sign-in codes by email

Get a six-digit code by email each time you sign in — the simple kind of two-step sign-in.

  • You can open your email on the same device.

  1. Tap Settings in the menu, then tap Security in the "Jump to a section" row (or scroll down to the Two-step sign-in box).

  2. Next to Email codes, tap Set up, then Send me a code.

  3. Type the code from the email into 6-digit code from the email and tap Turn on.

Find it: The email we send youPaste it: The code box on the sign-in screen

Not this: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx — that's a recovery code — only for when you've lost your phone.

✅ How do I know it worked?

  • You see Email codes are on. and the row says On.

⚠️ Common mistakes

ProblemThe code didn't arrive.FixCheck spam, wait a minute, then ask for a new code. Old codes stop working.
