Record WhatsApp opt-ins and opt-outs
Marketing on WhatsApp only goes to people who agreed. Record how and when they agreed, and remember that STOP always wins.

The steps at a glance
Step 1 of 5
In the menu on the left, tap Leads. On a phone, tap the ☰ menu button at the top first.
Tap the person to open their profile. The WhatsApp marketing badge shows Opted in, Not asked or Opted out.
If they agreed on the phone or in person, tap Record opt-in, write how they agreed and tap Save.
On forms, landing pages and booking pages people can tick Send me updates on WhatsApp. It is never ticked for them.
When you import a spreadsheet, tick These people agreed to WhatsApp marketing and say where they agreed. Leave it unticked if you're not sure.
✅ How do I know it worked?
- The badge says Opted in and the history shows who recorded it and when.
⚠️ Common mistakes
Problem“Only they can opt back in, by replying START.”FixThey replied STOP earlier. Nobody can override it — they need to send START themselves.
ProblemYou ticked the import box for a bought list.FixNever import bought, rented or scraped lists. Meta can block your number.
